I’ve Got Joy

by Kassi Solis

If there is anything I have learned in this life it is this–JOY is a choice. There is an old song by Larnelle Harris that Rick used to always sing, “I Choose Joy.” The lyrics go on to say, “I’ll never let the problems keep me down, ’cause I know the Lord will work things out. For my good, I choose JOY, JOY.” WOW! What a REVELATION for us to grasp hold of! JOY is a choice we make on a daily basis in order to walk in the victory Jesus made available to us through His blood.

Nehemiah 8:10 declares this: “The JOY of the LORD is your strength.” So, if you need strength—whether it’s physical, emotional or spiritual—it is made available to you through JOY. However, joy doesn’t fall off like ripe apples off a tree. It is something we must daily receive from the Lord and choose to walk in. Is it ever available to us? Yes. Do we have to earn it? No. Do we have to work for it? No. But we have the responsibility of opening up our hearts to receive it from the Lord and learning how to transfer that JOY to something tangible in our lives.

Look, this world is not going to get any better. I don’t say that to depress you or to declare something negative over the earth we live in. It’s actually quite prophetic that it will get worse before the catching away of the church and the return of Jesus. BUT!!!!!! We are OVERCOMERS in this life! The Blood of Jesus bought and paid for our Super Champion status. This is the JOY we have—the JOY of salvation!

In Psalm 51 and verse 12, David prays this prayer, “Restore unto me the JOY of Thy salvation; and uphold me with Thy free spirit.” Habakkuk declared, “I will take JOY in the God of my salvation!” (Habakkuk 3:18) Jesus Himself declared the Father’s will when He said, “…that your JOY may be full.” (John 16:24) It is God’s will that we walk in JOY!

I believe the Lord simplified into three simple steps how to walk in JOY:

1. Identify what steals your JOY. In other words, take an inventory on what situations and circumstances distract you from all the good God is working in your life.

2. Ask God to show you scriptures on His promises concerning those issues. Knowing His will for that area of your life will fuel your faith to overcome and win!

3. Daily meditate and speak out loud those promises over your life. You will go in the direction of your most dominant thoughts and your words (especially God’s Word spoken by you) has creative power to change your circumstance.

Remember, JOY is already in you. JOY is already in me. We just have to CHOOSE JOY in the midst of every circumstance and believe that God is ALWAYS working out ALL things for our GOOD!!!
